At-Homes: A Salon Theatre Series
A unique offering in LA theatre and in the Jewish community.
What is salon theatre?
For hundreds of years in Europe and America, people gathered in private homes to discover new art, listen to music and share ideas. In Gertrude Stein’s day she called her gatherings “salons.” Oscar and Constance Wilde called theirs “at-homes.”
The Jewish Women’s Theatre blends two time-honored traditions: that of the salon, where culture-seeking individuals congregate to experience new art, with that of the theatre, where lays, poems, monologues, etc. are presented in theatrical readings. This union is called salon theatre.
