Frequently Asked Questions
What is Salon Theatre?
For the last several hundred years in Europe and America, people gathered in private homes to discover new art, listen to music and share ideas. In Gertrude Stein’s day she called her gatherings “salons.” Oscar and Constance Wilde called theirs “at-homes.”
JWT blends two time-honored traditions: that of the salon, where culture-seeking individuals congregate, with that of the theatre, where plays, poems, monologues, etc. are presented in theatrical readings. This union is called salon theatre.
How does Salon Theatre work?
In keeping with the geographical reality of most American cities today – a large city of many smaller communities – rather than expecting an audience to travel to one distant central location, we take our theatre to the audience, to the communities in which they live.
We select venues of architectural and design interest. Each theatrical evening will be performed once at each site so that at the end of the run, the evening may have been performed many times, but at different venues throughout the city.
You select the day of the week and/or the best location for you. Once you’ve subscribed, the address and map to the home will be sent to you, about 7 days prior to the performance.
How much are tickets for At-Homes: A Salon Theatre Series?
A subscription for At-Homes: A Salon Theatre Series is $95 for three evenings of salon theatre, including fabulous desserts and lively discussion.
What days of the week are your shows and where?
